May 12-May 22. Private homes across the city. See schedule on web site.
Chicago Home Theater Festival (CHTF) invites strangers into each other’s homes to share an intimate meal, experience transformative art, and build intentional community across lines of difference. We aim to provide a platform for artistic exchange within neighborhoods that have experienced systemic disinvestment; center access and accessibility by featuring narratives by and about artists of color, women and femmes, migrants and immigrants, LGBTQ folks, and artists with disabilities; and curate performances and conversations that directly disrupt injustice.
Over the past four years, CHTF has worked to build diverse coalitions of cultural producers, advocates, and organizers who are committed to redistributing creative capital in an equitable and just manner throughout Chicago. We aim to transform the cultural landscape of Chicago by creating spaces that honor marginalized groups and amplify their narratives and struggles. We choose to work in homes because we believe that art done and experienced in private, intimate spaces can transform how we relate to each other in our public lives.
